Ancillary Tasks: Call Sheets
- As the director of our production/my own ancillary tasks the call sheets were extremely important in order to ensure all shooting ran smoothly. I printed out copies of the call sheets and handed them to all members of the cast and crew of our production/my ancillary tasks.
- Also, the call sheets are helpful for the cast and crew to understand and acknowledge how the day on set is going to run, for example they clear up any concerns about location and provide directions to the set. Also, they clear up concerns about props, makeup and costume.
Main Task/Ancillary Tasks: Audience Feedback
Post Production Focus Group:
nvddkvndv,
In order to gain audience feed back on our main task and ancillary tasks, we gathered a group of peers within our target market (of 16-21 year olds) and questioned them about our main production (the music video for Sundara Karma - A Young Understanding) and our ancillary tasks (digipak and magazine advertisement).
Main Task: Treatment
- Colour treatment is extremely important within our main production, as the director of our peice my main challenge is portraying our theme of youth subcultures consistently. I believe steps like colour treatment are important in this process, for example the constant use of an orange toned filter, in my opinion, portrays the theme of youth due to its bright, warm, fun tones - if we were to use cooler toned filter our music video would begin to look washed out and darker, deferring away from our theme of youth and conforming to 'darker' themes (e.g sadness or depression).
Main Task: Location Permission
For the majority of locations we used within our production (a teenagers bedroom, the park, an exam hall) we did not need to obtain permission - however, a few of the scenes feature a 'gig' setting, this was filmed at the Camden Assembly, as it is a privately owned company we needed to obtain permission before using the 'gig' scene footage and potentially uploading the video to a website such as YouTube or Vimeo, this also prevents potentially being copy righted.
Here is the email I sent to Camden Assembly:

Main Task/Ancillary Task: Location Release Forms
- Location release forms are useful for all members of the cast and crew, they verify that we have the permission to record our cast within such locations. This is important as it avoids possible risks such as bein copy righted. As the director of our product I have taken on a lot of responsibilities in terms of the cast and crew, if anyone on set has any concerns or questions - by providing forms such as location release forms, it clears up any concerns our cast and crew may have.

Main Task/Ancillary Tasks: Risk Assessment Forms
- Here I have completed risk assessment forms for the possible risks we could face on our production of A Young Understanding, as the director of this production it is important for me to be aware of all potential dangers in order to ensure all cast and crew remain safe whilst filming. This includes locations such as a house, a bus, a park and a exam hall.

Exam Hall:
Park:
Bus:
Ancillary Tasks:
- For the shooting of my magazine advertisement and digipak images I intend on using the location of the park, which is a location that was used when shooting our main task, thus the risk assessment forms that were created for my main task can be used again for my ancillary tasks. I believe that by using the same location that was used for my main task, it will connect the two tasks together and create a true running narrative, making it easier for the audience to connect with my work.

Ancillary Task: Digipak Skeleton Layouts & Questionnaire results

- Here are my first two drafts for my digipaks, I created both of these using In Design and used images I found online which intend to photograph/recreate myself.
- The first image features a group of friends holding bottles of drink in a cheers-ing motion, I found this image online and thought that it was an interesting and perhaps realistic representation of modern youth - this is shown through the recklessness of the cheering motion showing that they are having a good time, and even the wristbands that are worn connate towards youth. If I use this style of image, with youth cheers-ing with bottles, I intend on taking my own image and using my own props (such as similar alcohol bottles). I would also edit my image similarly, to mute it and get the darker tones that are used in this image - this could be done by using flash on a camera to gain exposure on the arms and make the background darker. The text for this image may be manipulated/developed further depending on my questionnaire results but I like the simplicity of a bold font.
- The second image shows a womans' mouth with red lipstick on as she smokes a cigarette. I also found this image online and decided that it was an interesting representation of modern youth due to the colour schemes that are used - red has connotations that link to danger, fun, mischief and even love. I think that all of these themes can be related to youth and the excitement that youth holds. I think the fact that the woman pictured has a cigarette in her mouth so carelessly also links to youth, the fact that the cigarette is even pictured in the mouth links to the need for youths to fit in/look cool, and perhaps this is an image that could even be uploaded onto a youths blog. I would photograph this image myself and use a prop cigarette to recreate this style of image. Again, I really like the bold text of the font and like the fact that the text matches the lipstick colour as it sets a distinct theme for the digipak.
Questionnaire Results:

1. I provided images of each digipak on the questionnaire I created, and asked firstly which of my 8 respondents which they preferred. Number 1 was the image of the youths holding bottles and Number 2 was the image of the woman smoking a cigarette. I decided that asking the respondents which they preferred from first impressions would be the best way to gather an initial response, as all of the people that I questioned were within my target market.

2. I decided to ask my respondents why they preferred this digipak. I got a wide variety of answers which were all interesting and valuable to my research. Many said that the second image relates to youth well because of the red colouring used and how not only the lipstick/colouring a symbol of youth, the cigarette etc link to the culture of youth.
