Focus Group Results:
Importance of our focus group:
For our research using a focus group was essential as it is an easy and successful way to measure and collect information to evaluate within the making process of our production. As we are students ourselves and study media, it was fairly easy to find a group of people who share a common interest in music videos/the production of music videos who would be happy to take part in our making process - these fellow students were also the type of people we would be marketing our music video towards (16-18 year olds, interest in indie/pop music, mixture of males and females etc). Whilst some of the topics we were discussing were arguably controversial (feminism, drugs and alcohol abuse) it was important for us to make sure we are targeting the right group of people and for them to not be offended by any themes within our production, luckily to which they were not. The focus group was also successful in helping us evaluate ideas that we had not thought of before, for example some of the editing techniques that were discussed we had not thought of (e.g Dylan’s idea of the overlaying technique), but further it helped us evaluate ideas that we had already discussed and see if they would be successful with people of our target market. Our focus group of all methods of research was particularly important to us as we are aware that it gives individuals the opportunity to really engage with our questions and the ideas that we have about our production, there is no word limit and the candidates are not restricted by writing their opinions - they have the opportunity to delve into their opinions and feelings towards our music video ideas. The focus group idea was also useful in saving money within our production budget - at college we have access to the media studio, camera/camera equipment use and a range of students willing to partake, which saved us a lot of time and money.
